3 reasons to run with the new Nike Zoom Fly 6 :

Looking for a fast, versatile model?

That's what characterizes this Zoom Fly 6. With a design and look far more "racy" than the previous version, the American brand continues to offer a model halfway between a training shoe and a competition pair, with a slight tendency towards the latter. While the Zoom Fly 6 is aimed at regular runners who include one or more intensity sessions in their weeks, it is perfectly suited to all types of outings, thanks in particular to an outsole offering excellent grip even on soft or wet ground, but also a midsole that is firmer and more stable than that of models specifically designed for road racing. A great combination that could well make this the central shoe in your rotation. With speed yes, but not only!

You're about to embark on your first competitions:

The Zoom Fly 6 is undoubtedly a pair we'd recommend to runners who want to start their first road (or nature) races. With all the dynamism of a carbon-plate shoe, this model has everything you need to go for a good time, or even help you get to the finish line when the last few kilometers become complicated for the legs. On top of that, the Zoom Fly 6 offers the comfort and durability of a training pair, so you can wear it throughout your race preparation, so you can take to the start with confidence and a feeling you know by heart, as well as wear it for an entire season! And at a time when the prices of all models are soaring, it's good to be able to count on a shoe that will be worth it for at least 700 kilometers.

You already love Nike's Zoom Fly range:

Since its appearance in 2017 alongside the revolutionary carbon plate models (such as the Vaporfly 4% at the time), the Zoom Fly range has won over a wide audience of runners from the casual jogger to the elite athlete. If you're a fan of this shoe yourself and have run a lot with the Zoom Fly 4 or 5, chances are you'll appreciate Nike's innovations on this sixth version, which loses slightly in comfort (but not in versatility) with firmer cushioning, but gains even more dynamism. While it's indeed a new Zoom Fly that we're discovering this year, it doesn't denature itself, and evolves in the right direction by moving slightly away from the range it complements more than ever!

2 points to remember about the new Zoom Fly 6 :

A real evolution compared to the Zoom Fly 5 :

Nike's running models undergo a complete makeover every two years: when a new version of a model is released, the following year's version will be very similar, with only minor improvements designed to optimize the previous year's innovation. In this way, Zoom Fly 6 marks a break with Zoom Fly 4 and 5, both of which were very similar and appreciated by the general public on some points, and much less so on others. But don't panic! While this sixth version tends more towards the competition or performance shoe than the jogging pair, it nonetheless retains all its versatility and durability, with simply a slightly firmer sole and a closer-fitting fit. Significant changes indeed, but with this Zoom Fly 6, devotees of older versions will find a pair more clearly distinct from and complementary to the Pegasus.

Competitive positioning:

The Zoom Fly 6 belongs to a category of shoes that is becoming increasingly popular on the market, and which is now offered by the vast majority of brands. These are competition shoes that are more accessible (in terms of price and use) to the general public. Nike's model is therefore on a par with a Rebel from New Balance, an ASICS Superblast, an On Hypermonster, or a Brooks Hyperion Max 2. In terms of price, Nike is in line with its competitors.

Our NIKE shoe rotation tips:

Shoe rotation means using two or three different models in your training week.

This is something we recommend if you are a performance-oriented profile and run more than 4 times a week:

  • Invincible 3: endurance, long outings and recovery
  • Pegasus 41: Daily jogging and workouts
  • Zoom Fly 6: Rhythmic to fast workouts
  • Alphafly 3: Road racing from half-marathon to marathon

General opinion on the shoe

Note:
3.5/5

With this sixth version of its intermediate model between the training shoe and the competition shoe, Nike doesn't disappoint with the performance aspect of this new Zoom Fly. Once on your feet, you immediately feel the sensation of lightness, accentuated by the forward propulsion provided by the combination of ZoomX foam and carbon plate, which works rather well. A yellow (or red?) card, however, for the abnormally narrow yet imprecise fit of the front of the shoe, which spoiled our overall opinion. A very good training model, then, provided you plan to wear a half-size larger than your usual Nike size.

Highlights

  • Dynamism
  • Energy feedback
  • Adhesion
  • Lightweight

Weak points

  • Very narrow forefoot fit
  • Poor foot support
  • Rates still on the rise

Size: Plan on wearing half a size larger than you're used to with Nike. Our test athlete, accustomed to wearing a 45.5 with the American brand's models, would have preferred a 46 to avoid tingling toes.

    Hello,

You say I should go up a half size, but I usually wear a size 41 at Nike and there's no such thing as a 41.5. Would you recommend a size 42 or 41?

Thanks, great article, very complete as usual 😉

Hello, I'm a size 40, I just received them and I took a size 40, everything is ok, they fit perfectly!

I hope I was able to help 🙂
