TEST & REVIEW: On Cloudboom Echo 3

We've been talking about it for months now, watching elite athletes race with it in road races, but we've never been able to find out more about it! Those days are over. The Swiss brand's new carbon-plate nugget will be available to the general public on Thursday, July 06. And it's a launch not to be missed. We explain why!

More performance-oriented than ever!
The bouncy, propulsive feel of the forefoot is what best characterizes this new generation of Cloudboom Echo. Let's face it, it's got absolutely nothing to do with the previous version, which clearly wasn't up to the competition's standards. The Swiss brand has entered a new era in terms of product quality and performance, notably since the release of the Cloudmonster in 2022, and more recently with the Cloudsurfer.

The Cloudboom Echo 3 is equipped with a Pebax "superfoam" combined with a full-length carbon-infused sole. With a drop of 9.5 millimeters and 216 grams on the scale, it's not the lightest competition model on the market, but it's a very good score. The shoe's mesh is thin and light, and hugs and supports the foot during effort. You tend to feel the sensation of rocking forward, without being on an unstable platform, as can be the case with the Vaporfly, for example. A very good point.
Sensations: This is a competition model, designed for speed, so comfort is clearly not its main asset. The cushioning is quite stiff and tends to hit the ground hard. Running feel: it's similar to an ASICS Metaspeed Sky+, but with more rebound and forward propulsion. This is clearly where it stands out from ALL other carbon models on the market. On the other hand, energy saving during exercise is less effective than on an adios pro 3 or Rocket X 2, notably due to the stiffness of the cushioning.
Feedback & use
Use : For intense training and competition only.
- Endurance: not a good idea, not recommended.
- Track session: excellent, as the model is light, responsive and stable in corners. Even on wet tracks, grip and adhesion are good.
- Long outings: unless you're planning to run (half or full marathon), otherwise we'd prefer a Cloudmonster, as it's more comfortable and has cushioning better suited to this type of training.
- Competition: this is where it proves most effective! From 5 km road to marathon, this model will help you perform at absolutely every level.

Ranking in relation to the competition (our opinion): in second place for the year 2023, just behind the HOKA Rocket X 2, which for us is the most efficient carbon model on the market today (taking all parameters into account). Nonetheless, this CBE3 performs much better than the new-generation Vaporfly, which remains the benchmark on the market.
General opinion on the shoe
The Cloudboom Echo 3 is unquestionably 100% part of our shoe rotation! Of course in training, but also in competition, where you'll have the opportunity to see us running with it over 5 and 10 kilometers. Convinced that the sensations of propulsion and speed it provides are a great help in improving our performance. Model 100% validated, so if your curiosity tempts you and your budget allows it: you can go for it with your eyes closed! 😉

The latest On looks really good.
How does it stack up against the competition in terms of durability?
Would you recommend the cloudboom echo or the ASICS Metaspeed Sky+ for a 5km in 3.20?
For a 5 kilometer Cloudboom Echo will be much faster 🙂
